More of More Better Blues

Kinds of Blue diptych 40x60 Acrylic Mixed Media on Canvas
My final take on this, it is at the photographer for the quality imaging. My photo hat glare, is slightly askew  but the idea and color are good for the blog. When I finished this one I did a large yellow abstract that got done on Monday.

Mellow Yellow, 60x48 Acrylic on Canvas
This one changed a lot over 4 or five days and the painters in my critique group really liked it. I am hoping they both find good homes.. the Rental Sales Gallery is where I hope to show them.

As always thanks for looking and let me know what you think.

More Better Blues

Kinds of Blue  Diptych 40x60 Acrylic on Canvas (each 40x30)
Here is what I believe is my final version of the painting, i added the yellow piece on the left lower area. and changed the temperature of yellow on one shape in each canvas. Maybe i will change the name of this piece to the title of this post for all the associations such a title would bring.
Thanks for looking, feel free to share this with your friends and let me know what you think by leaving a comment.

Painting Away the Blues

It has been 3 weeks since I posted anything.  I enjoyed a bit of summer slow down when we finally had a week of 90's here in the Northwest, which slows most folks. Hillsboro's art center sponsored a 2 day plein air workshop, with Elio Camacho, a fine painter form the Bay area. It was part of their Plein Air paint out event on Saturday July 17th. So I painted on location 3 days and even tried using oils for 2 paintings. As as studio painter it was very much a challenge. Elio is a very knowledgeable, generous  teacher, an excellent colorist and a painting fool who slathers on the paint with creamy thickness. I enjoyed learning more about color, color  temperature and his loose style of realism.

Elio's demo on day one.

He waited for the last light to finish it and add the dramatic light. Sorry but I failed to get a shot of the finished painting.

As a change of pace here is a diptych on my easel that is almost finished

The Red Season

Blue Bones 24x24 Acrylic on canvas.
This painting just got finished on Monday.  It is a 24x24 Acrylic on canvas. I have finally last week gotten back into a regular painting schedule. The efforts to reorganize and the 90+ heat of last week were major influence towards procrastination,
Board Dude 24x24 Acrylic on canvas

This painting was done at the same time and has been changed since this image was taken. on Sunday.  I've faded out the board a lot and blurred, lost edges on the figures to unify and integrate them in to the background. When I re-shoot the image I will update this post
Thanks you for looking and let me know what you think of  these paintings.

Editing Paintings: How Do You Know You Are Done?

A couple of weeks ago I was satisfied with this painting; then I took it to the monthly critique meeting and got some good ideas on how the improve it.

Annual Buffalo Grass Society Sale

I almost forgot to tell you about the 41st annual BGS sale. I ts a group of painters mainly, in watercolor, that began years ago at the medical school. It has evolved and morphed throughout the years in terms of classes, members and location but the sale goes on.It is a fine group of painters and great opportunity to see lots of new work from everyone. It is this Sunday from 1 to 5 at Mountain Park Clubhouse in Lake Oswego.
Below it the poster and postcard you may have received

I hope to see  you  on Sunday.

Up the Revolution

I uploaded these images last Monday, but dealing with restoring my laptop and life are my excuses for not finishing this post. On the right is the small 9x11 painting I posted last. Below is the larger version I created from it.
30x30 Acrylic on Canvas "Where's the Revolution?"

I have no idea where these figures came from but I am interested in seeing if we can have some pictorial adventures together.
Let me know what you think and thank you for looking.

May Daze

Started the month of with an outdoor show in California,on a picture perfect 80 degree and blue sky day.
The drive is a bit much but the people and other artists made it worthwhile. This past Tuesday Hillsboro's Walter Art Center and Sequoia Gallery both opened good shows  This past Saturday David Dunlop, artist featured on Landscapes Through Time, gave a lecture at the Attic Gallery. He is an excellent, entertaining and informative speaker in person and in his Emmey wining show. I also saw several good shows in the Pearl area Galleries prior to his talk.
I trust all the Mother's were suitably feted this weekend and enjoyed their day..
Some work and new starts were made in the studio this week. I've been drawn to the fresh strawberries at the farmers market and did this 10x10 of some.fresh ones.

This painting painting came out of my workshop with Robert Burridge.

Show TIme

It's been a busy week in the studio, with lots for packing, inventorying, and labeling of paintings. It is preparation for my  first outdoor show of the year.It is the 53 Annual  Saratoga Rotary Art Show, which is the about 11 hour drive south for me. It will be interesting to see what people think about these paintings and one always hope they vote with their pocket books.
Check out the new look of my website, and let me know what you think.
Wish me luck.
