In April the Rental Sales Gallery of the Portland Art Museum has their Spring Show. The gallery artists are invited to submit up to 3 new works and 2 may be chosen. The gallery represents over 200 artists in Oregon and Washington. The Spring and Fall openings are juried by 5 folks from the Museum and the board while replacement work sees a monthly panel of 3. So having 2 paintings selected for the this Spring intake feels great. These are the paintings:

The Rental Sales Gallery is a good place for artists and for the public to support local artists. If you are a member of the art museum you can rent work for up to 6 months to try it in your home or business, if you like the art you may apply the rental fee to the purchase price. Many local business firms have a changing art display at their offices and growing permanent collection too. If you are in Portland on April 16th stop in for the opening from 5 to 8 pm, you'll meet many local artists.

Once again I let life get in the way of posting updates and information here. I did spring cleaning and reorganization of the studio for a wine tasting a friend ran. It is good have a clean space to start messing up. This month has also been busy working out of the studio in my other field, so starts are plentiful but paintings to show are few.
Even when studio time is limited or non existent I read about or study some art daily, and I enjoy collecting quotes by or about art and artists.
There is no abstract art. You must always start with something. you can remove all traces of reality.

Two weeks ago today I was in a class with Robert Burridge in Springfield, OR. The Emerald Art Center is a good facility for classes and my only gripe was they over sold it. 25-27 is to many, especially for a 3 day intensive workshop; it is hard on the instructor get ot each person. That said he did a great job teaching, motivating, and inspiring everyone.

It was a fun and intense 3 days and the ideas are still flying through my mind. If you are an artist who wants to loosen up or need a jump start for increasing your creativity you can learn a lot from Bob.

This the latest and final version I hope of what a showed last time. Sorry i missed last week but I was enjoying a great work shop with Robert Burridge in Springfield, OR. These changes were motivated by that class. I had some positive news this week, my painting " Willamette Sunrise" was accepted for the WSO Spring show by juror StephenQuiller. That show opens April 9 th in Brookings Oregon. I will put up some photos from last weeks workshop later.
